Arbor Animus

Arbor Animus, meaning Spirited or Courageous Tree, was a 16-foot-tall, multimedia, fully-interactive, artistic representation of an American Willow tree.  It was displayed at Figment and Burning Man in 2008.  To fund this project, individuals could “sponsor a leaf” and in doing so got to put their vision, or version, of the American Dream on their leaf.  Its message was simple: there is no overriding “American Dream”, but rather a millions of individual dreams, the collective making the whole.  And to this end the tree was the perfect metaphor: one solid structure made up of thousands of individual leaves.
