The ANIMUS ARTS COLLECTIVE is group of three NYC artists –Preston Dane, David Ort, and Annie Vainchenker–who create large-scale, interactive public and private works, both for New York City and for festivals around the country. This year, ANIMUS successfully completed four large temporary installations located on Governor’s Island, Liberty State Park, Upper West Side and Nevada. Each piece was uniquely different in style, materials, theme and exposure. Their work has been featured in WOR 710 AM, Time Magazine and TimeOut New York Online.

Dream Outside the Box

Dream Outside the Box, by Animus Arts Collective, is a sculptural representation of the American Flag installed in early October 2009. It is approximately 10 feet tall, 20 feet long, and 10 feet wide. Comprised of stacked, interlocking red, white and blue boxes of various sizes, the result is a “fractalesque, cubistic representation of the American Flag.” Engraved on the boxes are ‘individual American dreams’, quotations, and words of wisdom, from our Founding Fathers juxtaposed with childrens’ quotes from the PS 163 LEAP Program.

Dream Outside the Box, commissioned by the Department of Transportation, Urban Art Program is located on West 97th Street between Amsterdam and Columbus Avenue. The art installation will be up until September 2010.

Buddha Bunny, Burning Man Arts Festival

ANIMUS presented the Buddha Bunny at the Burning Man Arts Festival in August 2009. The Buddha Bunny was featured in many online reviews including Time Out New York and TIME Magazine (Video).

Flickering Fountain at All Points West Music Festival

ANIMUS was commisioned by All Points West Music Festival located in Liberty State Park, to display the Flickering Fountain on July 31st to August 2nd. The fountain overlooked the main stage where headliners Jay Z, Tool and Cold Play performed, also over looking the Statue of Libert, Jersey City and the New York City Skyline.

Hey Everyone,
The ANIMUS collective has been hard at work in the studio, currently building TWO art installations at once.
- We are building the Flickering Fountain for All Points West Music Festival, which is on display July 31 to August 2.
- We are also building the Buddha Bunny for the Burning Man Arts Festival, on display August 31st to September 7th.\

We are also throwing a FUNDRAISER for the Buddha Bunny, details coming soon!!!

The images are of the Buddha Bunny heads infrastructure. The head is made up of wood framing, covered in chicken wire. We will then load of the head with lighting effects such as color changing LEDs, EL Wire, Sparkle Fiber Optic and Strobes. Animus is full steam ahead on our art piece Rhythm & Rest. We have been working on Rhythm & Rest every night for the past two weeks.

The art piece will be on display for Figment on June 12-14 at Governor’s Island in the sculpture garden, however Rhythm & Rest will be up until October 2009.
